Not all of our time in Phnom Penh was dark and gloomy, in fact we had a lot of bright moments, many of which involved walking around the city. Unfortunately, The Royal Palace was closed when we visited but we still got to enjoy its grandeur from just outside its gates. The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh is a complex of buildings serving as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia. Sadly many items in the Throne Hall that used to be displayed were destroyed by the Khmer Rouge.
Built close to the waterfront, these ornate buildings, with classic Khmer roofs, were constructed in the 1860s and served as a beautiful backdrop for one of my early evening runs.
