Photo of the Day – Srah Srang, Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Srah Srang, The Royal Bath, is located across the road, east of Banteay Kdei. We simply walked from the temple to this site which is a baray or reservoir. Srah Srang has a large terrace where it is believed a building may have stood. It is thought that the building on the site was perhaps once a chapel dedicated to Kama the God of Love.It was built in the mid 12th century. The platform or elegant terrace was built in the shape of a cross with serpent balustrades flanked by two lions that are on guard. At the front there is an enormous Garuda riding a three-headed serpent. All of these artifacts were incredibly well-preserved and worth the time to see.
